Trials are usually recommended following advanced pig design and are intended to provide technical data on pig performance and verification of pig design.

There are many benefits in ensuring that optimum pig design is achieved in a trial situation, rather than in a “live” production pipeline, as more often than not, trials will identify modifications to be made to the initial pig design. This then ensures that the pigs supplied for the actual operational pigging are tried and proven for their required application.

Trials can be either full scale with pigs being pumped or blown through the test rig, or alternatively a more simple pull through winch or hydraulic ram system can be utilised.
